Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a few of the commonly asked questions that we felt deserved to be answered.
Q: Why Oakley Telecom?
A: When Oakley was founded in 1995, we were deeply involved in
telecommunication development work and we had secured sizable telco
development contracts, thus "Telecom" made sense. Several years
after Oakley's inception, POTS telco development began to taper off
and now only represents a very small fraction of our development
work. The name Oakley Telecom stuck and most people simply call us Oakley.
Q: Does Oakley provide manufacturing
services?
A: Our business model is built around product development, not
manufacturing. Although we have provided small quantities (i.e.
first and second articles) on a regular basis, we do not offer
contract manufacturing services. Instead, we have developed strong
partnerships and relations with contract manufacturing companies so
that we can provide a path for our clients to have their product
manufactured. We often provide assistance to our clients to permit a
smooth transition as a developed product moves on to manufacturing.
Q: I don't see your hourly rate, why
not?
A: We prefer to provide a quote for the required work as opposed to
working on an hourly basis. We have had clients express their
dissatisfaction with other developers who bill on an hourly rate.
The client has often felt that the development project's completion
was drawn out, resulting in unexpected cost over-runs. Our proposals
provide a fixed development cost for the proposed work unless the
client wishes to have further work performed after the proposal work
has begun that is not covered under the original proposal.
Q: Does Oakley provide product
development even though we want to have our product manufactured
overseas?
A: Yes. Oakley's business consists of product development. If
the client wishes to have their product manufactured domestically or
overseas, we don't differentiate between origins of manufacture. We
typically provide all of the documents and files generated during
the development process to the client. We are comfortable working with overseas
manufacturers especially during the release of the new product for manufacture.
Q: Can we pay with a credit card?
A: Yes. Oakley can accept and process credit cards including Visa,
MasterCard, Discover, AMEX, and P-Cards (procurement/purchasing card).
